I sold my dental practice four years ago. Immediately after the sale I took two weeks off to decompress. Since I was only sixty-two at the time, I chose to continue working on a limited basis. I have a couple of offices where I work one day a week on an alternating basis. I also have a couple of offices where I work on a “locum tenens” basis.
As a true Contract Laborer I have no management responsibilities. I schedule my own work days based on availability.
I have touched all four of the above elements, and find that part time dentistry is a great glide path into full retirement.
I’ll continue down this path as long as I feel productive, and needed by the practices where I am contracted.
Retirement, partial or full, is a great place. However, it does require some thought and planning to maximize happiness.
